The bore and the jet
pressure now its envelope (RMS, a quarter second) flowThe tube is the flute's bore, open at both ends; its pressure is the engine's own, node by node, drawn through a short average along the bore that keeps the harmonics and leaves out the grid's own shortest waves. The jet leaves the flue at the left and meets the labium's edge: when it swings inside, air flows into the bore, outside, it flows out. Blow harder and the jet arrives sooner — past a point the bore's second mode takes over and the envelope grows a node in the middle: the overblow, which nothing programs.
